Laura Crommelin is a Research Associate at the City Futures Research Centre, working on projects related to housing affordability and urban renewal.  Also a sessional lecturer in urban planning in the Faculty, Laura’s research interests cover a range of current trends in post-industrial cities, including urban renewal, place branding, place-making and DIY urban revitalisation practices.Her Ph.D research examined how DIY urbanism and place branding are being implemented in post-industrial cities, and how these practices are redefining the image of these places. Her case studies for this research were Detroit, Michigan and Newcastle, Australia, as both cities look to reshape their image following economic restructuring.  Laura was the 2012 Fulbright NSW Scholar, spending 8 months as a visiting researcher at the University of Michigan in 2012-2013. She holds a PhD in urban planning from UNSW, an M.Litt in US Studies from the University of Sydney and a BA/LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.
