CFRC will have a large hand in several 2016/17 housing research projects newly awarded. As part of a Swinburne University-led AHURI-funded study on private rental housing futures, the Centre’s Dr Chris Martin will lead an international review of recent institutional change and innovation in private rental markets.
Meanwhile, Bill Randolph will take charge of a study on affordable housing prospects in different market contexts, a ‘supporting research project’ within a larger AHURI-commissioned program led by Sydney University’s Professor Nicole Gurran.
Research bids by colleagues elsewhere in UNSW also met with success in the 2015 AHURI funding round – Professor Neil Warren (UNSW Business School) will contribute to a UTAS-led study on pathways to housing tax reform, while A/Prof Kristy Muir (Centre for Social Impact) will lead a program on the possible relevance of social impact investing to housing and homelessness.
CFRC will also be a member of an Adelaide University-led consortium awarded ARC funding to develop a survey methodology for assessing the condition of Australia’s housing stock – an issue unaccountably neglected since the 1990s.
