New Publication: The suburbanisation of urban disadvantage - evidence from Australian cities

Suburban Homes

"New research on Australia's cities shows how disadvantage has shifted into our suburban areas, paralleling similar changes in European and North American cities.  The “inner city” problem of the 1960s and 1970s has become the “suburban problem” in the 2000s.  The paper by Bill Randolph and Andrew Tice (now at NSW Department of Planning and Environment) argues that this is closely related to the broader growth of income and wealth inequality over the last 30 years reflected in distinctive housing market outcomes. The paper is published online by Urban Policy and Research and is available here.
